The Wozniak Game

A fast-paced reinterpretation of Breakout, developed solo in two weeks during a mobile game design course. Every aspect was crafted from scratch, focusing on audiovisual polish and game feel over innovation. It features infinite difficulty progression, three PowerUps and a strong emphasis on impactful feedback.

Project Breakdown

The Wozniak Game is a minimalist arcade title inspired by the original Breakout, developed solo in Unity during a two-week assignment for a mobile game design course. Although the core idea wasn’t original, the focus was entirely on execution and polish. Every part of the project — from programming to visual and sound design — was created from scratch. This gave me full control to push the level of feedback and clarity I wanted in every interaction.

The game features infinite procedural levels that gradually become more challenging, along with three different PowerUps that modify gameplay pace and reward timing and precision. It’s built around the idea that even simple mechanics can feel great if the feedback is strong enough. That’s why most of my effort went into studying and applying theories of audiovisual impact — how to sync camera shake, particle bursts, and layered sounds to create a more intense and rewarding experience. The ball hits harder. The power-ups feel stronger. And even failure is more memorable because of how it looks and sounds.

Another key aspect of this project was learning how to refine something that already exists conceptually. Unlike previous assignments, I wasn’t trying to invent a new mechanic or design a new system from zero. Instead, I started with a clear base and focused fully on enhancing the feel and moment-to-moment satisfaction. This shift taught me the value of iteration and intentional polish — something that often makes the difference between a functional prototype and a game that players want to keep playing.

While the idea behind The Wozniak Game is simple, it’s one of the first projects where I felt I truly understood what makes a game “feel” good.
